Saving for a Holiday

Saving for a holiday may be hard, but it is not that complicated. Just find out what you are spending.

You can put aside money each week. Subtract all annual expenses from your net wages and I think you will be very surprised at the excess amount you spend each year, yet you don't know exactly how you spent it.

Out of this extra set aside amount for spending and for saving. Each week take the amount out for saving and the amount for spending. If you don't spend all your allowance each week add it to the kitty for a future week you run short. Or find something you really want or need.

Don't Go Overboard

But don't spend it unless you really want or need something. Most of that money we mysteriously lost, went for purchases we really didn't need. Impulse buying is becoming a problem in many households. We have homes full of junk we don't use. So save for the holiday you want not the garbage you will just get rid of when you finally clean that closet.

If you can not save based on your extra spending, then see if you can put in periodic overtime or take an extra part time summer job, but remember this is your luxury money, for your holidays, not for weekly spending.

If you need the money now, then borrow if you feel you can budget and pay it off later. If you choose this method you must be able to calculate your budget as above and find out how much you can put toward the bill each month. Just paying the minimum will only get you into financial difficulties, it won't get rid of the debt.
