Holiday Expense ListAlways Set A LimitTry making your list setting the maximum amount or limit you want to spend in total on holiday, include all the probable expenses from food and drink to entertainment. Keep track of how much you actually do spend and compare it to your list. This is now a blueprint for future spending and a useful holiday guideline. Was Your Original List Realistic? Was the original figures really realistic? Adjust your list next time to take into account what you actually did spend when you went on holiday so next time your holiday expense list will be more accurate. Are Your Vacations Affordable?Look hard at your expense list looking at what you had hoped to spend and what you actually did. Now ask yourself is this really something you can afford next time? Do you have the cash to cover this cost in future or will you be carrying expensive credit card debts over for months to come in order to pay off your holiday. Trim Your ExpensesCut the fat, could you have trimmed down some of the expenses on your list? Could you have gone out less (entertainment expenses) or not spent as much on food and drink? Could you have saved money on excursions (often this is where pushy holiday reps make most of there commission) could you have found cheaper alternatives, hired your own car exploring the culture yourself, taken more trips to the beach or countryside picnics? Did you need to buy all those gifts? Can you go away on holiday without the need to purchase unnecessary gifts for yourself or others? Can You Trust Yourself?Obviously if you can not trust yourself to stick to your own list you will always overspend. The only answer is to either limit the funds you take on holiday with you (always have a backup for emergencies, a credit card or allow someone you trust who is on holiday with you to hold on to some of your funds) or except the fact and go for shorter periods or somewhere less expensive. Finally although this is a holiday list it could easily apply to weekly spending, mass budget or birthday gifts you need to make through out the year. Gift exchanges ( You could make some of those presents yourself, or as part of a big family, circle of friends or with co-workers you could start a gift exchange) this option helps save money too.
